The Collagist: Now Accepting Submissions

The Collagist is a literary journal published by Dzanc Books. They are an electronic publication. They publish short fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and excerpts from longer works. They are open to submissions until July 31st. They reopen to submissions in October.

They publish one issue on the 15th of every month. They are a highly respected electronic journal. They published a number of established writers when they were still emerging. It also helps that they are part of a larger respected independent publisher.

Their website is well designed and it easy to access the various pieces they publish. The work they publish tends to be clear and well composed. Their aesthetic leans towards spare and modern, in terms of visuals and the written word. They have a separate editor for each of the different genres, so to get the best feel for what they are interested in, read several pieces they have recently published in your submission’s genre.

All submissions must be made through Submittable. Full guidelines for the different genres they accept are available there. Simultaneous submissions are permitted. They do not accept reprints. If you are submitting a novel excerpt they prefer that the novel is going to be traditionally published within the next three months. Publishers can also submit novel excerpts to them directly.
