The Cumberland River Review is an established online journal of fiction, nonfiction essays, poetry, and art, produced and published by Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee. They seek submissions from around the world, and they showcase a wide range of forms and styles. You can read the journal online to get a sense of what they publish.
The Cumberland River Review was established in 2012, and since then they’ve published four issues annually. Each thoughtfully designed online edition contains writing and artwork from around a dozen contributors. They also produced a print anthology in 2018 called “The Cumberland River Review: The First Five Years”.
The Cumberland River Review accepts submissions from September through April each year. Poets may submit three to five poems. Authors of fiction and nonfiction may submit one short story or essay, up to 5,000 words.
Submitting authors can expect a response within three months. The Cumberland River Review nominates authors published in the journal for anthologies and prizes such as the Pushcart Prize, Best New Poets, and Best of the Net.
The Cumberland River Review encourages authors to submit online using Submittable. They do also accept submissions by post, but they do not accept submissions via email. They accept simultaneous submissions, but they ask that authors withdraw writing published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.
The Cumberland River Review only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
