The Meadow is a journal of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction produced and published by the students at Truckee Meadow Community College in Reno, Nevada. The journal features writing by both new and established authors, such as Kim Barnes, Bob Hicok, and Alyson Hagy. Writing published in The Meadow has gone on to receive recognition in some notable places, such as The Pushcart Prize anthology and The Best American Essay anthology. Although they do publish some writing by students at the college, they seek submissions from around the world.
The Meadow is published annually in print, and is also available in a digital version online. Both the print and digital journals are free, and the print journal is distributed around the Reno area. Authors published in The Meadow also receive two free copies of the journal.
The Meadow has been published yearly since 2011, and each edition of the journal features writing from around sixty contributors. They accept submissions annually from August 15 through January 15, and they publish the journal each summer.
Poets may submit up to five poems. Authors of fiction and nonfiction may submit one piece, up to 5,000 words. Submitting authors should take care to remove any identifying information from the submission.
The Meadow accepts submissions online using Submittable, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw writing published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.
The Meadow only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
