The Mixtape Review: Now Seeking Submissions

The Mixtape Review is an online journal of poetry and prose, where every piece is published alongside a song chosen by the author: “Our mission is to celebrate the role music plays in our writing: it inspires us, keeps us going, and fills the all-too-often silent room with more than sounds of our frantic typing.” You can read (and listen to) The Mixtape Review online to get a sense of what they publish.

So far, The Mixtape Review has published three issues, each with writing from eight to nine contributors. Each piece of writing also includes a link to the author’s chosen song on Spotify. The song is not written or performed by the author; rather, it’s a song by another artist chosen to complement the author’s writing.

Right now, The Mixtape Review is seeking submissions for their fourth issue. Poets may submit poems of any length, in any form. Authors of fiction and creative nonfiction may submit pieces in any form or genre, up to 2,000 words. In the submission, authors should also include the title of the song they would like to pair with their writing, and the name of the artist who sings it. The Mixtape Review accepts writing from all authors, regardless of experience level.

The Mixtape Review accepts submissions via email, not online or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions, and they also accept previously published writing. If the writing is previously published, the submitting author should make sure they have the right to re-republish the piece. The Mixtape Review does not accept writing generated by AI.

The Mixtape Review only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
