The Sprawl Mag: Now Seeking Submissions

The Sprawl is a new online literary magazine of speculative poetry and fiction. They publish a wide range of speculative writing including sci-fi, fantasy, magical realism, and dystopia/utopia. They pay contributors $20 CAD for each published piece, and are accepting submissions until 2 April 2023.

The inaugural edition of The Sprawl Mag features writing from 30 authors, as well as speculative artwork. It also includes a letter from the editor with more information about the mission of the journal. Before submitting, it’s a good idea to read the first issue online to get a sense of what they publish.

While the Sprawl Mag accepts submissions from all authors, they aim to showcase marginalized voices. They especially want to uplift groups that have historically been left out of canonized speculative writing.

Poets may submit up to four poems, 40 lines or fewer each. Authors of fiction may submit up to two pieces, 1,000 words or fewer each.

The Sprawl Mag accepts submissions via email, not online or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw writing published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.

The Sprawl Mag only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
