The Sunlight Press is a new online literary journal that publishes poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction and photography, as well as reflections on craft composed by authors and artists. They seek to showcase experiences that foster epiphanies, stories in which people turn toward hope. They are searching for illustrations of our capacity to navigate the unknown, the dark night, and to arrive at our own inner light. Whether born from everyday happenings or an extraordinary event, whether found in the midst laughter, a daily walk, a death, or while witnessing a miraculous work of art, The Sunlight Press wants to hear about your moments of awakening.
The journal publishes new content twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays. On Mondays they publish creative non-fiction like literary essays, book reviews, and craft essays. They publish poetry and fiction on alternating Wednesdays.
Authors of fiction may submit works of flash fiction under 1,000 words, or short stories under 2,000 words. Poets may submit poems of up to 1,000 words. The Sunlight Press also accepts reviews of books, short story collections, essay collections, art, television, or movies, of 750 to 1,000 words. Authors may also submit essays for the Artists on Craft series. Essays may include interviews or personal reflections on the artistic process and may be accompanied by photographs. Craft essays should be under 1,000 words. All submissions should include a three to four sentence bio as well as a standard headshot, social media handles, and contact information. All authors of original work published by the Sunlight Press receive payment for their work. They do not pay for previously published work; however, they do consider it for publication.
The Sunlight Press also hosts two contests: the Spring Fiction Award and the Summer Non-fiction Award. The fiction award goes to an author whose work of flash fiction or short story is submitted or published between March 15 and June 15. The non-fiction award goes to an author whose essay is submitted or published between June 15 and September 15. Each winner is awarded $50.
The Sunlight Press acknowledges all submissions upon receipt, and informs authors of acceptances within three to four weeks. They accept submissions via email, but not online or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions, but ask that authors let them know immediately if their work is published elsewhere.
