The Top 3 Journals Now Open to Submissions

Many of the best journals have been closed to new submissions all summer and are just now opening to submissions. The following are three of the best journals that publish fiction.

If three top journals are not enough for you, two of the journals in our review of the top poetry journals also accept fiction.

All the following journals are respected print journals that accept electronic submissions. All three journals pay their authors.

1. Glimmer Train

Glimmer Train exclusivity publishes fiction. Out of the 100 short stories listed in the recent edition of Best American Short Stories, 10 first appeared in Glimmer Train Stories, more than in any other publication. Three  of those ten short stories were the authors first published work.

Glimmer Train is respected, established, and it loves to take chances on new authors. They publish some of the most compelling fiction on the market. Being published by them sets your work apart and also opens up opportunities for your work to be re-published in prestigious anthologies.

2. AGNI

AGNI has published many of the established fiction writers of today including David Foster Wallace,  Jhumpa Lahiri, and Noam Chomsky. They also publish poetry and non fiction.

AGNI accepts around 1% of the work submitted to them and they respond to most submissions within three months.

Even though they are primarily a print journal you can get a feel for what they are looking for by reading the stories they select from each issue to publish online. If you read this stories before submitting you will get a better feel for what they are looking for.

3. Ninth Letter

Ninth Letter is an academic journal that is published four times year. It is primarily a print journal, but two of the issues are electronic. These issues are available for free online and they are focused on complimenting not replicating the print edition.

Ninth letter a respected journal that publishes traditional and experimental fiction, short stories, and non fiction.  The editors accepts over 1 percent of the work that is submitted to them.
