Whiskey Tit attempts to restore degradation and degeneracy to the literary arts. We are unwilling to sacrifice intellectual rigour, unrelenting playfulness, and visual beauty, often leading to texts that would otherwise be abandoned in a homogenised literary landscape. In a world gone mad, our refusal to make this sacrifice is an act of civil service and civil disobedience alike, and our work reflects this. We welcome like-minded readers and writers.
Whiskey Tit is a small press with a focus on publishing what might be difficult to publish elsewhere. Books that are too long, too short, to unconventional books that defy easy categorization and are hard to describe. You can however get a good feel for what they publish by reviewing their catalog here.
Although they do say that while their current catalog focuses on fiction and memoir, their hope is to move more into publishing poetry and art in the future. They published a “dramatic poem” this year.
They published their first book in 2014. I could not find out details about distribution. I was generally impressed by their website, which as a sense of humor, is well organized, and easy to navigate. The cover designs of the books themselves seem to vary.
For a while in 2020-2022 they were not meeting their publication schedule and I feared they were defunct but they are now active and publishing again with a clear track record.
Their name can be a bit polarizing. If you do not like it, they are probably not the best fit.
At the time of the update they are only reading for Whiskey Tit Journal and A Common Well Journal, but they plan to reopen to submissions again. They have a 5 dollar optional submission fee, and we will only continue to cover them as long as that fee remains optional.
They accept submissions year round but do not read them in January. All submissions must be made through the submission manager Submittible.
