Indigo is a new online journal of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and “other text-focused experiences”. Although they accept all types of writing, they especially love experimental, cross-genre, hybrid and “medium-bending” work. They aim to showcase writing that lives in liminal spaces: “Show us the jagged pink edge of twilight just before moon rise, when the sky goes from blue to indigo-black. Take us off the beaten trail. We want to see things through new eyes, hear things through new ears. … Now is your moment; show us a new world.”
Now through September 30, Indigo is seeking submissions for their first issue. Poets may submit up to three poems. Although they accept all types of poetry, the editors especially love “stark imagery and tactile, emotional experiences on the edge of the unsaid.” Authors of fiction and creative nonfiction may submit work of any length, though pieces 3,000 words or fewer are likely to be the best fit. The editors prefer fiction with a powerful sense of place; they also like introspective writing that embraces the surreal. For creative nonfiction, they like writing rooted in personal experience.
Indigo accepts submissions online using Google Forms, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw writing published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.
Indio only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
