Door is a Jar Magazine: Now Accepting Submissions

An emerging online and print magazine founded in 2015, Door is a Jar publishes poetry, fiction, nonfiction, drama, and art. With a preference for simple language and engaging voices, Door is a Jar Magazine aims to be an open book (or door): a publication accessible to all readers. They honor the diversity of both readers and writers, and they celebrate personalities of all creeds.

Door is a Jar values community involvement, and works to promote awareness of local ethical concerns.

In an effort to raise awareness about water quality concerns along the Mississippi River, they created the Lower Mississippi Riverkeeper Award, an accolade given each year to the two most outstanding Door is a Jar contributors. You can find out more about the award here.

Door is a Jar is published twice a year, in print and online. Right now through October 1, they’re accepting submissions for their fall issue. Submitting writers can read past issues online to get a sense of the magazine’s style.

Poets may submit three to five poems. Each poem should be no longer than one page. Fiction and nonfiction writers may submit up to two pieces, 1,000 words or fewer. Playwrights may submit up to two short plays. Each play should be no longer than two pages. Submissions should be accompanied by a fun, five-sentence biography, omitting prestigious accomplishment such as degrees, accolades, and publications. Authors may submit work in more than one genre, but should submit only once per submissions period in each category.

Door is a Jar accepts submissions via email, but not online or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions, but ask that authors notify them immediately if their work is published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.

If you’d like to learn more or submit to Door is a Jar Magazine, please visit their website at http://www.doorisajarmagazine.com/submit/.
