Abstract: Now Seeking Submissions

Abstract is an online fine arts journal edited by JL Jacobs, a graduate of Brown’s MFA program and a former nominee for Poet Laureate of Oklahoma. Abstract showcases a wide variety of work in a range of artistic mediums. They are seeking writing by both emerging and established authors from around the world. In addition to the online journal, they also publish audio and video features. To get a sense of their style, you can browse Abstract online.

Abstract accepts submissions on a rolling basis, and they publish new content frequently. Submitting authors can expect a response within one to twelve weeks.

Abstract is seeking poetry, flash fiction and creative nonfiction – essays and memoirs (1,000 words or fewer), and longer work (1,001-15,000 words). They are also interested in multimedia submissions with audio and video content. And, they accept queries concerning academic articles, book reviews, craft essays, gallery reviews, art reviews, music reviews, collaborations, and interviews.

They will consider submissions in any style or genre. All submissions should be accompanied by a brief cover letter detailing the author’s artistic history, including major influences, publications, and awards.

Abstract accepts submissions via submittable. They accept simultaneous submissions, and they also consider work previously published on websites, blogs, and in small-circulation journals, with credit given to the original publisher.

Their response time is between 6-12 months.
