Cherry Tree: Now Seeking Submissions

Since its debut in 2015, Cherry Tree—a print journal of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction—has received many accolades. Poems published in Cherry Tree have gone on to be featured in The Best American Poetry and Verse Daily. Produced by Washington College, Cherry Tree is published under the imprint of Literary House Press, the publishing branch of Rose O’Neil Literary House, a cultural institution with a 45-year history of fostering the arts.

Cherry Tree publishes insightful, meaningful literature in all forms and styles. They accept work by both emerging and established authors, and publish writers from around the world.

Cherry Tree is published once a year in print, and they read submissions from August 1 through October 1 annually. Submitting authors can expect a response within three months. Authors should send no more than one submission in each genre per reading period. Authors published in Cherry Tree should wait two years before submitting again.

Poets may submit up to seven poems. Authors of fiction and creative nonfiction may submit up to seven flashes or up to 25 pages of prose. All genre-specific submissions are also considered for publication in the “Literary Shade” feature of Cherry Tree, which aims to counter institutional whitewashing. Authors published in Cherry Tree receive a $20 payment as well as two contributor copies of the journal.

Cherry Tree accepts submissions online, but not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions, but ask that authors clearly note such work both in the cover letter and in the comments section of the submission. If a submitted piece is accepted for publication elsewhere, they ask that authors notify them by adding an additional note to the submission. They will still consider the remainder of the material for publication. Cherry Tree does not accept previously published work.
