Duende is a well-established online journal produced by the undergraduates of Goddard College’s BFA in Writing program. They publish one themed edition each Spring and one open edition each Fall. Right now through June 30th, they’re seeking submissions for their next themed issue: “Ritual.” You can read more about this theme in their current submission guidelines.
Duende publishes poetry, fiction, nonfiction, hybrid writing, stage plays, screenplays, and visual art. They especially appreciate collaborative work, and work by underrepresented authors. They’re looking for soulful, expressive writing in a wide variety of forms and styles. You can read Duende online to get a sense of their aesthetic.
Poets may submit up to five poems, fifteen pages or fewer total. Authors of hybrid work may submit several pieces, totaling up to 2,500 words. Authors of prose may also submit several pieces, up to 7,500 words. There’s no minimum word count; they like micro writing. Authors should limit each submission to a single genre.
Duende accepts submissions online, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions, but ask that authors withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.
