Lavender Bones Magazine: Now Seeking Submissions

Lavender Bones is a new online magazine of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. They’re interested in writing that explores the themes of growth, change, and persistence: “…like flowers blooming after the harshest of winters, or how our skeletons and memories exist long after we are gone.” They want to read writing about the cycles of life and death, both within nature and within ourselves. To get a sense of what they publish you can read Lavender Bones online.

Lavender Bones was launched in 2021, and since then they’ve published two online issues. Each edition showcases writing from around 40 authors, as well as about 10 visual artists.

Right now through November 10th they’re seeking submissions for their third issue. Poets may submit up to five poems, three pages or fewer each. In total, each poetry submission should be 15 pages or fewer. Authors of fiction and nonfiction may submit up to three pieces, 4,000 words or fewer each. In total, each fiction or nonfiction submissions should be 9,000 words or fewer. Authors should submit only once per reading period.

Lavender Bones accepts submissions online, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work; however, they do accept writing that has previously placed in contests.

Lavender Bones only accepts writing that follows the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
