Liquid Imagination is an established online publisher of fantasy, science fiction, horror, and imaginative literary fiction. They also publish poetry that embraces the themes of these genres. Liquid Imagination is a project of Silver Pen Writers.
Liquid Imagination pairs each piece of writing they publish with original artwork selected by the editors. In doing so, they hope to merge writing and art in a way that creates something new. They aim to create a space, “where reality and fantasy blur.”
Liquid Imagination is published three times a year online: in February, June, and October. Each edition contains writing from 17 contributors.
Right now, Liquid Imagination is seeking submissions for their upcoming issue, scheduled to be published on October 1. They stop accepting submissions about six to eight weeks before their upcoming publication date, so it’s a good idea to submit now. Submitting authors can expect a response within about four months.
Poets may submit up to five image-driven (not abstract) poems. Authors of fiction may submit one short story, 1,000 to 6,000 words, or one flash, 1,000 words or fewer.
Liquid Imagination accepts both speculative and literary writing, and they especially like intense, emotional stories and poems, “maybe tinged with the ominous side of life.” They’re looking for memorable writing that appeals to a broad audience.
Liquid Imagination pays authors: $8 per short story (1,000 to 6,000 words), $3 per flash (up to 1,000 words), and $8 per poem.
Liquid Imagination accepts submissions using Submittable, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.
Liquid Imagination only accepts writing that follows the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
