Parcel: Now Accepting Submissions

Parcel is a print journal produced and printed by the Raven Bookstore in Lawrence, Kansas. Each beautifully crafted volume of Parcel is packaged like a thoughtful gift with a curated selection of literary objects such as broadsides and postcards. By creating an attractive showcase for literary art, Parcel hopes to draw an eager audience for both established and emerging writers. Though they publish a variety of aesthetics, they favor lyrical writing and work that experiments with form. You can get a sense of what they publish by reading selections from the journal online.

Parcel publishes two annual editions: fall/winter and spring/summer. Each volume features work from about fifteen authors. They accept submissions year-round, and submitting writers can expect a response within three months. Writers may submit to Parcel once every six months.

Poets may submit up to five pages of poetry. Fiction writers may submit one short story, 1000 to 7500 words, one piece of flash fiction up to 1000 words, or one novel excerpt up to 8000 words. Nonfiction writers may submit one essay, work of narrative nonfiction, or book excerpt up to 8000 words. Parcel also accepts graphic works and translations.

Parcel accepts submissions online, but not via post or email. They accept simultaneous submissions, but ask that writers withdraw their work if it’s published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.
