Tramp Press: Now Accepting Manuscript Submissions

Updated February 2021: They no longer accept submissions from the US and Canada, and no longer meet our guiding principles in that way.

Tramp is a literary press based out of Ireland that has great distribution. Within Ireland they are distributed by Gill & Macmillan. Throughout the rest of the world they are distributed by Macmillan.

Tramp published their first book in 2014 and since then the authors they have published have gone on to win the Irish Book Awards, the Rooney Prize, and a Lannan Fellowship. They have also received nominations for the Guardian First Book Award, the Edinburgh First Book award, the Dublin Literary Award and lots more. Tramp Press won the David Manley Emerging Entrepreneur Award in 2015, in the arts category.

They publish literary fiction and collections of short stories. They only publish a few books every year. You can get a better feel for what they publish by reviewing their catalog here.

They try to reply to submissions within a month, but from August 2018 till March 2019 they will be taking longer.

At the top of their submissions guidelines they say,

We’re always looking for exceptional new works of fiction: if you’re an exceptional writer, we’re looking for you.

If you’re a person of colour, we’re particularly looking for you. If you identify in any way with a group that has been under-represented in literature, we’re looking for you.

They only accept submissions through email. They have an extremely helpful FAQ section that you can see by scrolling down on the submission page.

Writers should submit 50 pages or 10,000 words worth of work, along with a cover letter and a synopsis.

This small press’s motto is “Publishing the Positive”. They were founded in 2016 by Deb Haggerty, whom you can learn more about here. Elk Lake focuses on publishing positive Christian books.
