White Cresset Arts Journal: Now Seeking Submissions

White Cresset is a new journal of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and writing that defies genre boundaries. A cresset is a metal container that holds something flammable, like oil, and is burned as a light. In the same way, White Cresset aims to be, “the fuel and receptacle for your flames.” They’re looking for intense, impactful writing with unexpected imagery.

Right now, White Cresset is seeking submissions for their first issue. The journal will be published in print and online, and they offer a very quick turnaround time: submitting authors can expect a response within three days. Submissions close on August 15.

Poets may submit up to 300 lines. They accept collections of poetry as long as the total line count is 300 or fewer. Authors of prose (fiction and nonfiction) may submit up to 5,000 words. White Cresset also accepts other creative writing that defies genre boundaries, as well as visual art and music.

White Cresset accepts both unpublished writing and reprints of previously published work, with credit to the original publisher.

White Cresset accepts submissions via email and online using Google Forms. They do not accept submissions by post. They accept simultaneous submissions, and authors do not need to withdraw work published elsewhere since White Cresset accepts reprints.

White Cresset only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.

White Cresset is also looking for volunteers to read submissions: “This is a great way to develop publishing experience, build up a resume for art and writing, or gain volunteer hours.” For more information, click the link below and scroll down to “Join Our Masthead.”
