Cosmic Daffodil: Now Seeking Submissions

Cosmic Daffodil is an online journal of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and artwork. They like writing that carries the reader away and evokes deep emotion. They are a relatively approachable publisher, accepting around 27% of the writing they receive. They were featured by Chill Subs as one of the 25 best lit mags of 2023.

Cosmic Daffodil has been published since 2022, and each edition is available online. Most issues are available as downloadable ebooks, and contain writing from around 50 contributors. This coming year, they plan to publish four new issues.

Each edition of Cosmic Daffodil is themed, and they only accept submissions on that theme. Now through January 15, they are seeking submissions on the theme “Myth & Metaphor”. They want authors to, “Reimagine classical myths or create new ones that reflect current issues.” You can read more about the theme here: the editors have also included writing prompts to help you get started.

Poets may submit three to five poems, ten pages or fewer total. Authors of flash writing, fiction and nonfiction, may submit up to two flashes, 600 words or fewer each, and totaling five pages or fewer. Alternatively, authors of fiction may submit one short story, 1,000 words or fewer. Authors may submit once per submission period, and can expect a response within three weeks.

All submissions should address the theme “Myth & Metaphor”. Submissions that don’t address this theme won’t be considered.

Cosmic Daffodil will also be open to submissions in 2025 from February 2 to April 15, May 2 to July 15, and August 2 to October 15. Before submitting during any of these windows, please check their website to learn about their current themes.

Cosmic Daffodil accepts submissions online using Duosuma, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions, but they ask that authors withdraw writing published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work, and they do not accept writing generated by AI.

Cosmic Daffodil only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
